This is bullshit.

I think you can have a conversation about Jefferson's legacy and the obvious hypocrisy of a man who wrote the Declaration of Independence yet owned other human beings. I think that there is very reasonable criticism of Mr. Jefferson to be made, and I think that we would do well to examine his legacy through the lens of the contradictions that he lived. Particularly around the institution of slavery.

But efforts to completely erase Thomas Jefferson are absolute bullshit. This town simply does not exist in its current state without Mr. Jefferson and the University that he founded.
